As we all know, the French brand offers a large variety of lines and models of sports trainers. On this occasion, we proceed to the analysis of the Salamon Wings Pro 2, the little sisters of the S-Lab Wings.

The first impression conveyed is that of a hard shoe, feeling that is accentuated because of its wide fit. However, they continue breaking in with the passing of kilometers, and do not result in being as hard as other models of the same brand. We tested the fast tracks of Baix Llobregat, and on the rocky terrain of Garraf and in the rain on the technical trails in Montserrat; acting much better when more technical terrain and was the worst weather conditions.

Cushioning
In the midsole, it is composed mainly of EVA, with some exceptions like ACS heels or Profeel Film at the front. If we look at the profile, the rear cushions are 27 mm and 17 mm front, so the Wings Pro 2 have a profile of 10 mm. A higher drop than other than other shoes range.

Tab and laces
The tab is attached to the sole by two very fine pieces, which prevent us from moving and produce discomfort. The rope is fast closing (Quicklace) and has a pocket on the tongue, to pick it up. This fast rope system saves significant time in biathlon, triathlon, cyclo-cross, adventure raids and mountain races in lifetime. However, to tie them pay a minimum of attention to prevent the instep be too loose and too tight on top

Some trainers of other brands come with this fast lace system, but in the same box, they have normal laces. Others don’t include but provide the option, whereas the Salamon Wings 2 Pro do not. In order to be able to introduce the conventional lace system, we should find some just as good as the original, hard to find.

Another interesting aspect is found under the laces, where you will see a mesh, used to prevent stones and other things that can get inside and annoy you. Concerning the upper of the shoe, it isn’t waterproof, but it has other interesting qualities such as breathability and ease of cleaning.

Sole
Three different compounds of hardness are offered, but what really draws attention is the distribution of studs. These are formed in the shape of a trapezium in various sizes and thicknesses unlike that of its predecessors where it was formed in the shape of a V.

As well as the grip of the trainers, I have to say that they offer the runner and excellent grip on dry ground (improved over its predecessor thanks to a reduction heel), but what is really interesting is the great grip they have in wet and muddy areas… In short, they have a great performance in technical terrain.

Conclusions

We said the Wings Pro 2 are hard, but we can say that it is a reasonable hardness, which goes in favor of comfort. It is an ideal trainer for technical areas, which doesn?t behave bad on running terrain. Translated by Max Wright
